Octavic completes implementation of IoT4Industry / Horizon2020 research project

Real time planning of production based on historical and real-time data from production.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 777455

Octavic together with Eurodies, Politecnico di Torino and Lund University have developed a solution to take advantage of the IIoT data and operator knowledge for optimizing the production and reducing the risk of non-delivery.

The demonstrator was designed and implemented at Eurodies, an Italian company which builds prototypes and low volumes series of cars bodies for major car manufacturers. The fact that the company produces One-of-a-kind products makes the planning extremely difficult, especially in the die producing department, which is in scope of this project. The main difficulties are due to the custom design of the dies and the frequent adjustment of the timeline based on:

  • CAD/CAM milling time available short time before the execution
  • Down-time caused by machines and issues in the process
  • Additional adjustments needed in certain phases

The planning system was developed by taking into consideration all these aspects, together with the delivery time and the availability of the raw materials.
